MC Number Lookup

An MC number is the docket under which FMCSA grants the right to haul for hire. It is a different number from the USDOT registration, it is granted and withdrawn separately, and 1,529,083 revocation orders in the register exist precisely because the two do not move together.

Free, no account. Try 80806 for J B Hunt, or 241829 for a carrier whose registration is active while its authority is not.

One carrier can hold all three, any two, or none

Broker authority is the one that matters when the company on the rate confirmation will not be driving the truck.

Order types

Voluntary and involuntary withdrawal read the same on paper

The revocation register records the order type, and the difference matters. A carrier that let its own authority lapse appears as a voluntary revocation; one that lost it over an insurance filing appears as involuntary. Both leave the docket unusable, and the record shows which happened.

Start from the DOT number lookup if the docket is unknown, or browse the carrier directory for carriers already on file here.

Involuntary revocation

The agency withdrew the authority, most often because a required insurance filing lapsed. The docket is unusable until it is reinstated.

Voluntary revocation

The carrier gave the authority up itself. Nothing was done wrong, and the load still cannot legally move under that docket.

No MC docket at all

An operation running only for its own account, or only inside one state, needs no MC docket. Then the authority block gives a sentence instead of a table, a fact about the carrier rather than a gap in the lookup.
